Setting Up a Multi-Region Apigee Hybrid Deployment
Here in this blog, we will learn about setting up a multi-region Apigee hybrid deployment.
Apigee Hybrid is a robust API management platform designed to operate seamlessly across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. A multi-region deployment enhances the reliability and performance of your APIs by distributing the Apigee infrastructure across multiple geographical regions. This setup ensures high availability, reduced latency, and disaster recovery capabilities.
Prerequisites
Before starting, ensure the following:
- Kubernetes Clusters: Deploy Kubernetes clusters in each region you want to use, such as Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Amazon EKS, or Azure AKS.
- Apigee Organization: Set up an Apigee organization with proper permissions to deploy and manage the infrastructure.
- DNS Configuration: Prepare a global DNS setup to direct API traffic to the appropriate regional clusters, using a global load balancer like Google Cloud Load Balancer.
Planning the Deployment
- Regions: Select regions that align with your user base to minimize latency and meet regulatory requirements.
- Traffic Routing: Use a global load balancer, like Google Cloud Load Balancer, to route user traffic to the nearest or most responsive region.
- Data Residency: Plan deployment in compliance with regional data residency and governance laws.
Installation Steps
- Primary Region Deployment:
- Install Apigee Hybrid components (runtime, synchronizer, etc.) on the primary Kubernetes cluster.
- Configure networking, ingress, and TLS certificates.
- Secondary Region Deployment:
- Replicate the installation in secondary regions, maintaining consistent configurations.
- Ensure synchronization of runtime configurations using the Apigee management plane.
- Global Load Balancer Setup:
- Configure the load balancer to direct requests based on proximity or region availability.
- Datastore Replication::
- Implement Cassandra datastore replication to synchronize data across all regions.
- Testing and Validation::
- Simulate failover scenarios and monitor performance metrics to ensure system resilience and optimal latency.
By following these steps, you can build a highly available and reliable multi-region Apigee Hybrid deployment that caters to global traffic efficiently.
